What's your favorite food?

I feel the following answers sound awkward, but I hear these kind of answers quite a bit from ESL students.

1. My favorite food is apple.

2. My favorite food is sweets.

3. My favorite fruit is orange.

4. My favorite food is noodles.

Would you agree that since the question is asking for a singular #1 favorite food answer that 1-4 sound strange?
How about these corrections:

1. I like apples the best.
2. My favorite food is chocolate.
3. My favorite fruits are oranges.
4. My favorite food is Chinese noodles.

I look forward to your feedback.

Thank you!

NOT A TEACHER.

"My favorite food is apples."

"My favorite food is sweets."

"My favorite food is oranges."

"My favorite food is noodles."

All those sentences sound awkward, but I believe they're grammatical. They would sound better if the subject were changed (e.g., "Oranges are my favorite food").

Hello, Youandcory,

I believe that the following are also considered "good" English by many

native speakers:

My favorite fruit is AN apple.

My favorite fruit is THE apple.
