comma inside a nonrestrictive relative clause

I'd like to put a date in American style inside a nonrestrictive clause. For example,

My brother, who was born on January 1, 2010, was an important addition to my family.

I have to put a comma in the date inside the two commas for the nonrestrictive clause. Is this considered acceptable, incorrect, or something to be avoided? Any help would be appreciated.
