    Comparatives

    1) She runs as fast as me.

    2) She runs as fast as I do.

    Are the both correct?

    Re: Comparatives

From a die-hard prescriptivist's (that is not me) point of view....

    1. The correlative conjunction as ... as coordinates clauses.
    2. In "She runs as fast as I do.", the conjoined elements are:
    - She runs fast
    +
    - I run fast
    and not
    - Me run fast.

She runs as fast as I run fast. -- In this sentence, the predicate (run fast) may either be replaced by a zero proform, thus we may get

She runs as fast as I,

or it may be replaced by a do pro-form, thus we get

She runs as fast as I do.

She runs as fast as I.
She runs as fast as I do.
She runs as fast as me.

    Re: Comparatives

I do not disagree with R-C, but the 'incorrect' form is very often heard. I would give this shorter answer:

She runs as fast as I do. The safest form.
She runs as fast as me. Fine in informal conversation.
