I work in transcription and have recently been told by supervisor to combine year and old when used in a sentence such as: The client is a 6 year old", not used as an adjective which would call for the hyphens. Is it ever correct to combine year old into one word, - "yearold" ?
Thanks for your help.
Thanks so much.
'Six-year-old' is indeed adjectival, the understood noun being child. The client is a 6-year-old.
