To take a cleat in the groin

I'm sorry, I'm terminally hung over and I just took a cleat in the groin.
I looked up the words "cleat" and "groin" but I don't exactly understand what is meant here. It doesn't appear the be an expression.

Does this mean that he was hit in the groin with cleats (a certain type of shoes)?

    Thanks.

I think some context would help. It should be clear from the rest of the passage whether or not the person with the hangover has just been kicked in the groin by someone wearing a particular type of shoe. If that's not the case, then I assume it's some kind of metaphor meaning that something bad and painful has just happened to him, which is made worse by the fact that he also has a terrible hangover.

Thanks. The quote was from an episode of Two and a half men. I rewatched a part of the episode and the kicking bit is in fact depicted. I didn't notice it at first.
