    held back

    Hi

A mother sent his boy to school, secondary school. She told the headmaster that he's very bright. The headmaster said that he would keep his eye on him and he would see he wasn't held back.

The mother also added: Most probably he'll go on to the technical, he's handy.

Does it mean that after the secondary school he will go to a technical college?

What does "held back" mean here?

To hold somebody back, is to stop them making progress.
