Hello.

There is a man playing tennis. And there is a young woman plaing tennis quite near him. He looks at her from time to time. That is the context. His partner (he isn't playing tennis, just watching) asks him 'Did you have lessons as a boy?'.

What does he mean by that?

Thanks, Alex.

IMO I would say that you need to give us more information. It could be literal, small talk, sarcasm if the guy is a crappy player ect. Hard to say from the example above.

If you have a link, post it.

Thank you, SanMar, for your kindly reply!

I don't think I am smart enough to provide more context on the subject.
At least I can say that this discussion originally came out from the film RocknRolla (13th minute).

Thanks, Alex.

Could he have meant, "When you were a boy, did you have tennis lessons?" ie. a straight-forward literal question?
He could have meant, "Did you have lessons as a boy, or as a girl?" But he probably didn't. There are numerous other things he might have meant, but probably didn't.

Thanks, Raymott.

That is what I need. A few examples to make some picture of this question.

Thanks, once again.

Alex.

I thought this sounded familiar. Archie's being sarcastic, and making fun of the guy. "Lessons" refers to tennis lessons.
If you watch the guy playing tennis just before that line is said you'll see that he's a crap player.;-)

Really good movie!:-D

Oh, I am so glad I have met here a person who likes this movie!
Really pleasure to meet you here.
I am also a great fan of this art artifact ;-).

SanMar,
did he mean if the Councilor had any tennis lessons when he was a boy?

Thanks, Alex.

SanMar, did he mean if the Councilor had any tennis lessons when he was a boy?
 Yes, but sarcastically since the councillor looks like he sucks at tennis.
Thanks, Alex.

I'm a big fan of Guy Ritchie movies. Interesting plots, not too bloody (compared to other movies), and they are f*cking funny!
Nice to meet you too AlexAD.

I meant this sort of movies that Guy Richi produces (I called it art artifact but I am not sure if that was correct).

Some questions of mine are connected with the RocknRolla as I am learning English this way ;-) And such questions will be appearing here.

Well, I think we'd better finish our discussion here about Guy Richi and his movies because someone could give us a ban ;-)

Alex.
