    Is my sentence correct?

    There are always jealousy and competition among girls which prevents you to study.


    If ''prevents'' is correct could you please explaining to me why?

    Please see my amended sentence in red above. It's not a very natural statement to make but I don't see a big problem with using "prevent". If the jealousy and competition are so bad that they take over the girls' lives, then that may prevent (stop) them from concentrating on their studies.

    I would have said: Jealousy and competition are sometimes so prevalent among girls that it impacts upon their ability to study effectively.

    Arzgol, note that Jealousy and competition would have been a better title for this thread.

    Use the title box to give us a clue about the question that follows. I see that you sometimes do, but not often.
