articulate/succint/eloquent

Hello,

I came across this question the other day and I have to say I tried so much and
looked up all the three choices but i think all the three choices are possible.
Is it the same to you?

Laughter appears to stand in need of an echo, Listen to it carefully: it is not a/an ................, clear, well-defined sound; it is something which would fain be prolonged by reverberating from one to another, something beginning with a crash, to continue in successive rumblings, like thunder in a mountain.

a) succinct b) eloquent c) articulate

I would say "succinct".
I'd rule out "eloquent", because this has nothing otherwise to do with the paragraph.
"Articulate" is more difficult to dismiss.

But I'm not sure whether the author knows what he's saying. If laughter "would fain be prolonged ..." then isn't he saying that laughter is not "reverberating from one to another, something beginning with a crash, to continue in successive rumblings, like thunder in a mountain." It would only fain be that. So maybe it is succinct.
