    sinewy strength of ...

    Hi

She had the concealed, sinewy strength of a donkey.

Does it mean she was as strong as a donkey or she had the donkey's strength?

It means the first. It doesn't mean that the donkey gave her his sinewy strength.
You could also say, "She had a donkey's strength." It still doesn't mean that the strength once belonged to a donkey.
These structures almost never mean that. They are comparative. Here's another example: "She had the looks and money of a movie star."
Occasionally, you have to tell from the context: "She has her father's nose."

If a naughty girl steals her mother's dentures and pust them in her pocket, I suppose we could say that she has her mother's teeth.
