    which + participle

    the part underlined is confusing me. Can you help me solve it?

    The use of polymer is gaining increasing acceptance due to the ability to eliminate the need for environmentally harmful solvents which and making them a great material.

    Are you sure you have copied it correctly? If so it doesn't make sense.

    I've typed "and" when I've meant to type "are."

    If you read it as "which are" it would make sense. I vote for typo.
    I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
