    rein (v)

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to give me your considered opinion concerning the interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentences?

My nostrils flared. I waited a moment to answer, reining in the anger that I’d never quite gotten used to.

Jim had great difficulty in reining in his anger.

rein = keep in control; overcome

    V.
