conjunction of other pronouns with I

I and my wife will visit you tomorrow
My wife and I will visit you tomorrow

    Are both these correct?
Or Is only the second correct? why? we have been used to the second one but I can't figure out why the first one cannot used.

Re: conjunction of other pronouns with I

Hi and welcome to the forums.

There is nothing that is ungrammatical about the "I and my wife" version, but it is not idiomatic to do so. It will sound wrong to native ears. Put "and I" after the other subject in your sentences.

I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

It's more polite to mention other parties first.
