[Vocabulary] 'barricking their wares'

Hello,

What is the meaning of 'barricking' here? Is it 'selling' or 'announcing'? I can't seem to find it easily with a Google search as I could for other words. This is from a book review of 'River of Smoke' by Amitav Ghosh.

And between them there are little watery lanes and galis, just wide enough to allow a shop-boat to pass; and of these there are more than you would think could possibly exist, for they are manned by hawkers and cheap-jacks of every sort – tanners, tinkers, tailors, coopers, cobblers, barbers, bone-setters and many others, all barricking their wares with bells, gongs and shouts.

The verb is 'barrack'. It means 'shout ou, make a loud noise'; they were trying to attract customers.
