    Dear teachers,

    Would you be kind enough to give me your considered opinion concerning the usage of the expression in bold in the following sentences?

    You’reafraid to fly?” The Seeker’s voice was full of disbelief edging toward mockery.

    Edge = verge as a noun, yes.

    "To edge" as a verb, as in this case, means to move towards something very, very slowly, taking tiny steps. So the voice carried signs of disbelief but the description of his voice could be said to actually be moving more towards mockery than disbelief.
