    need vs needed

    1. He needed to finish his homework by the following day.
    2. He need/needed not have hurried as he was not late for work.

I believe sentence 1 is correct with 'needed". For sentence 2, should I use 'need' or 'needed'?

    Thanks.

1 is correct. 2 should be "need."
