sucks all the romance out of it

I think definitely it means it removes or gets rid of any romance from something, but is it common? Do you use it for other cases as well?

    -g.w
bride- I don't want wake up in your bed on my wedding day
It sucks all the romance out of it
groom- Hey. nothing can suck the romance out of our wedding
    bride-
I'll just be relieved when the ceremony is over

It's not just romance- it's a more general idea- like sucking the life/fun/good out of something, etc.
