    bound to miss the point

    Dear teachers,

    Would you be kind enough to give me your considered opinion concerning the interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

    Myra watched us both tensely, but I knew that however hard she listened, she was bound to miss the point.

    bound to = be certain or destined to

    miss the point = overlook or fail to understand the essential or important part of something
