    Audience - meaning

    Hi,

I'm reading a First Certificate English book and it give these sentences as examples to use to reply to a letter and it says they are formal. Does "audience" have another meaning than a group of people listening or watching something together?

    As for the audience...
    With reference to the audience...

I'd say not. Does the whole sentence give any indication that it does?

Audience | Define Audience at Dictionary.com

It can mean a meeting with a very important person, like the king or the Pope.

    Re: Audience - meaning

It would help to see the whole thing. We talk about "audience" in my line of work all the time, meaning "the people you are creating this message for."
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    Re: Audience - meaning

There's no other information it's just the example sentences used in a formal letter. Like another example is "I look forward to hearing from you".

Thanks for telling me what I thought.

It can also refer to people who read a text- it doesn't have to be restricted to listening and watching IMO.
