I was not the one to be blamed for all those failures. There must be other reasons, other factors, which might save me from this intellectual limbo.


Can we use 'not the one to blame' in the sentence above without changing the meaning?

Yes. Your version is far more naural than the original. See: be to blame vs. be to be blamed ?
