Hello, is this sentence an idiom? If it is what does it mean?

She could strip the egotistical barnacles off the hulls of the worst of our politicians.

Thanks.

It's not what one would call an idiom. Rarher, it's a unique and clever description of a person who can see through the self-promoting jargon of politicians.

So how can I translate the meaning? What's the main idea of this sentence?

NOT A TEACHER
It's a metaphor, rather than an idiom.
For the main idea, see billmcd's post above.
