    the cat number 2

    In this post, I tried to number many things. I'm not asking you to read it all; just please take a look at the sentences like

    I see the cat number 2.


    I'm not sure this is correct. Should I omit the "the"? According to what I remember said by native speakers, I think it might be better. But it sounds awful to me in this particular case and I have no idea why. Could you please help me with this?

    If I were to number cats and then refer to them, I would not use the article. I see cat number one is sleeping in the window and cat number 2 is following me to the kitchen.

    Since you are giving the cats names, shouldn't the names be capitalized - Cat No.1/No.2?
