    Post mean of word

Here is a sentence that I could't understand a word in it. There's a man who had implanted his front tooth and his wife is talking about that he had lost his implant. Bu here what does gold wire mean? Is it in direct meaning of wire or sth else in dentist term?? And also what does bent it double mean?

"Anyway, when I saw him last, the tooth had broken off leaving a gold wire sticking out. I bent it double so he wouldn’t snag his tongue."

    Thank you :)

I know that dentists often use gold as a material for making a false tooth, is it possible that the person had a gold tooth implant?

A wire is a thin piece of metal in the form of a thread, made of gold in this case (I think you call this the 'direct' meaning).

Bent double in this context means to twist something back on itself. If you imagine bending a straight line '|' to resemble something like 'J' or 'U'. In this case it was done to prevent the person's tongue catching on the wire.
Another context for 'bent double' is when someone laughs, 'He was bent double with laughter'. That's where you bend forward towards the ground because you find something really funny.
