    Word order for negation

Are these two sentences equally acceptable?

Not every participant was guaranteed a free lunch
Every participant was not guaranteed a free lunch

If so, is there a difference in meaning?

    Thanks.

    Re: Word order for negation

#1 means that some people got a free lunch and others did not.
#2 means that no one got a free lunch.

What are you trying to say? That some people were guaranteed a free lunch?

    ***** NOT A TEACHER *****

    (1) NOT every participant was guaranteed a free lunch, but SOME were.

    (2) No participant was guaranteed a free lunch; none of the participants was

    guranteed a free lunch.

    (a) It is ONLY my opinion that a native speaker would not say your second

    sentence.
