For my address today I have advisedly chosen the subject..." means

    Hi teachers,

    1) "For my address today I have advisedly chosen the subject..." means "For my address today I have carefully chosen the subject..."?

    2) "I can't adequately thank you." means "I can't suitably thank you."?

    3) "An honorary degree was awarded to him by Oxford University in 1995." Correct?

    4) "He's the recipient." means "He is the person who will receive an award."?

    Many thanks.

    2) "I can't adequately thank you." means "I can't suitably thank you."? Could be, but I would think that you couldn't choose the correct or proper words. To use "suitably" would suggest to me that it would be my judgement as to whether your "thank you" was satifactory. Perhaps "I can't thank you enough/sufficiently" would be better.

    3) "An honorary degree was awarded to him by Oxford University in 1995." Correct? Yes.
    4) "He's the recipient." means "He is the person who will receive an award."? Yes.
    Many thanks.
