In the place of - in place of

    Hi teachers,

    1) "He complained that the company didn't give him any recognition for his work." and "He complained that the company didn't present him with anything in recognition of his work." These two have the same meaning?

    2) "I think I'll have a cold drink rather than coffee." means "I think I'll have a cold drink instead of/in the place of coffee." ?

    3) "He wears glasses because he has blurred vision." means "He puts on glasses because he has blurred eyesight." ?

    4) In Oxford dictionary, "in the place of sb/sth" whereas in Cambridge dictionary, "in place of sb/sth." Can both be used?

Please post unrelated questions in separate threads.

    1) "He complained that the company didn't give him any recognition for his work." and "He complained that the company didn't present him with anything in recognition of his work." Do these two have the same meaning?
    No.

The first means that nobody even commented on his good work. . . nobody even said 'Well done' or 'Good job'.

The second means that he was not presented with any award - such as a bonus, a trophy, a gold watch - for his good work.
