Dear all.

I read a letter, but I felt confused about a sentence below. I don't know if this sentence is a conditional sentence.

I asked my lecturer if it would be possible to take the examination on another date, but this is not permitted.
I asked myself why author doesn't use 'will' instead of 'would'?
If someone knows, please give me an explanation.
I'm expecting from you
Truc

It is not a conditional sentence. It is a reported question.

I asked my lecturer if it would be possible to take the examination on another date, but this is not permitted.

I asked myself why the author doesn't/didn't use 'will' instead of 'would'?
Because the reported question is introduced by a verb in the past tense
. Backshifting is normal.
