    Nouns

I need a very simple explanation for nouns. Other than a person, place, or thing. Please can you give me some ideas how I could explain nouns. I feel like my kids still don't understand nouns. Ex. weather, evening

    Re: Nouns

How about it's anything that's a name? Any word where you can point at something and say what it is, as opposed to how it is or what it's doing.

Process of elimination - they're clearly learning about grammar, which is great, so if the word they're looking at isn't a verb, an adjective, a preposition or a modal, then it's a noun! That's a little simplistic but...!

The concept of 'noun' is actually far more difficult than most of us realise. What do hammer, war, love, excitement, weather, air, heat, colour, preposition etc have in common?

How old are your offspring? If they are young, it's already an achievement to grasp the 'name of a person, place or thing' idea.
