    writing address

When you want to write an address on an envelope and your address contains the floor for example "the second floor" where do you write it? Before the number of the house? Will you give me an example? I mean an address?
    Thanks

    Re: writing address

I don't think there is any standard. Most mailmen can read and are flexible. I would write it:

    John Smith
    Third floor
    1256 East Oak St.
    Anyville, NY, 12345

Most multi-story buildings have some better way of determining whose mail goes where. Like an apartment number or "suite" number.

Usually the occupants would know which address to use and would tell you.

    Re: writing address

It depends upon the destination country to which your mail is being sent. If the person is the only resident on the second floor of a dwelling, in the US the address would read:

    Mr. John Doe
    123 Main Street (upper)
    Detroit, MI 48224 USA

As a rule, though, if a dwelling is divided into various floors each individual residence will have some sort of identifying number, such as

    Mr. John Doe
    123 Main Street #2
    Detroit, MI 48224 USA

(meaning that John lives in apartment number two at that street address)
