I am reading a report from the New York Times and saw this sentence a moment ago.
The writer here is obviously referring to two months. Should we say the first and last months' rent instead?

Brokers say prospective renters need to come prepared to close a deal on the same day — ready to write a check for thousands of dollars to cover the first and last month’s rent, and the broker’s fee.
The writer here is obviously referring to two months. Should we say the first and last months' rent instead?
