    be

    Dear teachers,

I said, "we could run away to sea and be sailors".

    I have two questions:

    No.1
Why "could" instead of "can" is used here? Does this "could" means a suggestion?

    No.2
I get confused by the use of "be". Does it mean "we could run away to sea and could be sailors"?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thank you in advance.

    Jiang
