    the Ritz throw me out

    Dear teachers,

(Context: a young man and his girlfriend were drinking when his girlfriend saw Ernest Hemingway. His girlfriend asked him to ask Hemingway to have a drink with them).
"Why don't you ask him to have a drink with us?" she said, knowing I wouldn't dare.
What matter if the barman at the Ritz threw me out? My life was over anyway. "I'll ask him," I said.

I don't understand the two sentences "What matter if the barman at the Ritz threw me out? My life was over anyway. "

    Could you please explain that?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thank you in advance.

    Re: comprehension

On the page of 'Ask a Teacher' that I was looking at before I came into this thread, there are three threads of your with the title 'comprehension'. You have been asked before to give more helpful titles, and you continue to ignore our requests.

If you cannot be bothered to help us, I cannot be bothered to help you.

Re: the Ritz throw me out

    n.a.t.

The Ritz is a famous hotel in Paris, France.
Since he is too shy to ask E. Hemingway to have a drink with them, his life is over anyway. Thus he doesn't care whether the barman throws him out.

    "What matter if..."
    Is not grammatical and ambigous.

It is neither ungrammatical nor ambiguous.

Re: the Ritz throw me out

    Hi Michael84,

Thank you so much for your explanation.
Could you please kindly explain the connection between asking Hemingway to have a drink with them and the barman throws him out? I mean why did the barman throw him out?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thank you in advance.

Re: the Ritz throw me out

And few bars would risk losing a customer as valuable as Hemingway.
