Using Present Continuous to talk about the future

    Hi,

Sometimes the present continuous tense is used to talk about the future.

    For example -
    - I am working late on Tuesday.
    - I am flying to Miami on Wednesday.

    Similarly, here is another sentence.
    - I am going to a movie on Thursday.
Instead of the above sentence, is it correct to use the following?
    - I am watching a movie on Thursday.

    Thanks

Re: Using Present Continuous to talk about the future

    Hi ,Englishstudent
I think you have to put the adverb ' usually ' in your sentence
I am usally watching a movie on thursday .
because we can use a present continuous to describe something that we regularly do at a particular time ..
    I hope I am right

    "usually" changes the meaning, though.

    Yes. It's perfectly fine .

By the way, the combination, continuous verb "am watching" + adverb "on Thursday" expresses the future. The verb cannot do that on its own. Be going to can, though; e.g., I am going to watch a movie.
