Glaciers are melting, sea levels are rising

Glaciers are melting, sea levels are rising, cloud forests are dying and wildlife is scrambling to keep pace. It's becoming clear that humans have caused ____ of the past century's warming by releasing as we power our modern lives.

    A) most B) much C) many D) few E) a number

    Why can't we say much?

We can. Whether we can say, "by releasing as we power our modern lives." is a different question.

    1. Well, a cloud forest appears to be correct: Cloud forest - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    2. "Much" and "most" would both be acceptable.

    3. I think there is a word missing in the final part of the sentence. I imagine it was meant to say something like "by releasing CO2 as we power our modern lives". Whether the word was omitted in the original or simply in this thread, I don't know.
