Hello,

I would be grateful to you if you checked my sentence.

'The doctor rinsed the patient's ears from pus with/using a syringe.'

What other synonyms of the verb 'to rinse' can be used in this context?

My dictionary gives these synonyms;

Jig, scour, scrub, wash, griddle out, wash off, wash out, wash away, bathe, irrigate.

Thanks

It is not 'synonyms'! ;-)

As it's a doctor, it would not be out of place to use 'irrigate', but you use it like this: 'He used a syringe to irrigate her ears and remove the pus'. [I'm not sure if you can have pus in an ear, but I've kept your example.]

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, it's quite possible to have pus in an ear.:cry: You are just a very lucky person, I guess ;).

Other readers may be led to guess that what typically builds up in the ear is pus; but it's wax. Quite possibly sondra knows this...

Well, maybe only those who have never heard of Ottitis may think so. Like you were not sure if you can have pus in an ear. Anyway, I don't think there are many people among the readers, who may think that the substance which is produced in the ear is pus and not earwax:D.
Here is an interesting link; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otitis_media.:)
Hope it clears things up for you.
