Hello,

Can we use "home" and "house" with the same prepositions?

For instance:

I was in my house / I was in my home

Thank you

We ca. I'd be more likely to say, "I was at home".

Thank you very much for your quick answer. Yes, I'd be more likely too ....I learned that the correct way should be: at home. But lately I have seen "in my home" too often, that is why I became a bit confused.

Anyway, is it a term more used in the States or is it common to all the countries where English is spoken?

Thank you again for your help. Very kind.

If i were wishing to assert something, I might use 'in my (own) home'.

In my home, we don't put take things from the fridge without asking first. (Said to a thoughtless guest who has just helped himself to a beer.)

I'll do what I like in my own home
. (Said to a guest who has just asked me not to smoke.)

Fortunately, I don't have many guests like that.
