    Past Perfect

    Dear Forum Users,

Could anyone please tell me whether the Past Perfect is needed in the following sentence:

"What absolutely beautiful weather" (said on a stormy day for which the forecaster had promised sunshine) is ironic.

    Thank you.

    Re: Past Perfect

We are often not as precise about using the past perfect as some course books and grammars suggest, but this is one of those situations in which I feel most native speakers would use the past perfect.
