    I recently attended an exam including a test that I think is not so correct, please see:

    - Are you glad you went to dinner party?
    - Yes, if I hadn't gone, ........ Bergote.
    a. never I would have met
    b. I would have met never
    c. never would have met I
    d. I never would have met

    I answered (a) but I think because of "never" the correct option should have been "never would I have met" since the inverted form is the expected form following (semi-/)negative expressions like "never." What do you say?

    We invert when (semi-) negative expressions begin a sentence. Only d is possible from those four choices.
