Roran took a place at the forefront of the charge. It was the fastest way to get himself killed, but the men needed to see him braving the same dangers they faced.
(C. Paolini; Inheritance)

Is it possible to paraphrase the sentence in the following ways without changing its meaning:

'... the men needed to see him braving the dangers they faced.'
'... the men needed to see him braving the very dangers they faced.'

Thanks.
