    Is it natural

    Hello everyone
Would you please tell me whether the following sentence is natural? Thank you!
Holding your urine too long is bad for your health.( I want to know if the expression " hold your urine" is natural for English native speakers?

    Re: Is it natural

    Who is your audience?

I know what you mean. I'm not sure how natural it is. But then, we don't tend to talk about these things often, so it's hard to say what might sound natural. We tend to not like words that relate to bodily functions, like "urine."

"Waiting too long to void your bladder" is certainly clear.

If you're talking in a non-medical setting, with an informal tone, "waiting too long to pee" would even work.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    NOT A TEACHER

    (1) I only wanted to add a few comments to what the moderator has already told us.

    (2) I have read that in some cultures, people have no problem in using words such as

"urine" in regular conversation. In the United States, it is rather distasteful and coarse.

That is, courteous and refined people do not use that word outside of a medical

situation. In fact, some people (such as I) do not like it when even a doctor or nurse

says "Pee in this bottle." We expect "Please give us a urine sample."

    (3) The moderator used the excellent word "void." In case you feel that your audience

would not understand the word "void," you might say something like:

Never ignore the need to empty your bladder.

Ignoring the need to empty your bladder can cause serious health problems.
