    hand and face

    Dear teachers,

Could you please explain the meaning of the sentence:
(The context is: two people quarrelled with each other. The third person persuaded one of them to apopogize to another person)

One hand washes the other, but together they washed the face.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thank you in advance.

    Re: hand and face

It sounds to me like an expression that may be used by speakers of another language. It as been translated into English - but it doesn't mean anything in English.

    Re: hand and face

    Hi 5jj,

You are right. Its origin is Latin. But since it is translated into English I thought it must mean something in English or translated close to English idioms.
