    Dear all,

    1. Do you know if Mark passed the test yesterday?

    2. Do you know if Mark could pass the test yesterday?


    Between the two sentences above, which one is fine?

    You could indeed. I would be more likely to ask, "Do you know whether Mark managed to pass..", but that's just personal.

    ... or just 'Did he pass?' - if he did pass he was obviously able to.
