    preposition + transport

I just read another thread about 'preposition + transport' and found we can say
'I came home in a taxi' or 'I came home in my taxi'.

I actually have a class about travel and transport tomorrow.

Will it be safe to teach my students to say 'I came home in a taxi' or 'I came home in my taxi' as well as 'I came home by taxi'?

Hoe about 'I came home on a plane' instead of 'I came home by airplane' and 'I flew home'?

    ㅡ.ㅡ

So.. I can't say 'I came home in my taxi' unless I own it..?

    Re: preposition + transport

That is correct. If i said "my taxi" I would be saying I owned it, or it was my taxi that I routinely drove as a taxi driver.

If you rode the same bus every day you could call it "my bus" (e.g. "I was late for work cause I missed my bus."), but the same wouldn't apply to a taxi.

If you called for a taxi and it showed up, you might announce "There's my taxi." But you can't say that you came home in "my taxi."

Your other examples for taxi and plane are OK.

    Wow thank you so much!

    Another stupid question!

    How about the below?

    "I rode home bus"
    "I rode home subway"
"I came home on a bike"

    "I rode home bus"

No. "I rode the bus home" or "I rode home on the bus."

    "I rode home subway"

Same as bus. "I rode the subway home" or "I rode home on the subway."

"I came home on a bike"

    OK
