    I would like to ask is that correct to say " What did you tell him for why I can not come for dinner?"

    No it isn't. You possibly mean, "What reason did you give him for my (or me) not coming to dinner?"

    I agree with what Rymott wrote, but feel that you might hear your sentence in informal conversation,(with can't rather than cannot).
