Sometimes "need" can be use as a model verb, which mean it will be followed by a V-ing. However, there are cases when it will be followed by just a regular verb. Can anyone tell me when to use which? A few examples would be nice.
I'd say it's more likely to be followed by a "to Verb."
I need to see the dentist.
You need to get your car fixed.
We need to ask Mom before we say yes.
They need to get their furnace fixed.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
