    would have been

Hello, could you please explain to me the uses of the construction would have been? I met them in Future Perfect Continuous in the Past, Future Perfect in the Past Passive and in conditional forms. Is there any special use of construction would have been? Please help me to understand them more clearly.

    Thanks in advance

    Re: would have been

Could you give an example of would have been in these future constructions?

    1. He said he would have been living here for ten years next year. (Future in the Past Perfect Continuous)
    2. Experts said that by 2050 the cure for cancer would have been found. (Future Perfect in the Past Passive)

It would be helpful if you could state precisely what it is about this construction that you do not understand. You have already cited a number of uses of it. What exactly do you consider to be a 'special' use??

This is reported speech, in which the 'will' has been backshifted to 'would'. In both cases, as the situation reported still holds, backshifting is not essential, and 'will' is possible.
