the meaning of the word "take to ~"???

Still, it's not clear exactly what's wrong with Cannon's kidney.
This could be very simple like dehydration, which should correct itself
quickly with treatment. Or it can be something very complicated that's going to take a lot of time to diagnose properly and treat. Later Wednesday, Cannon took to Twitter himself, saying, "Currently being transferred to a hospital in LA. Thank you all for all your love, prayers and concern."

This is from a news article. I don't know what exactly "took to Twitter himself" means. (i know what Twitter is )
Does this mean Cannon himself wrote on Twitter ??
i wanna know the exact meaning of "take to ~~."

these are several definitions that i found from a dictionary:
1.[VERB] [intr, preposition] to make for; flee to
    to take to the hills
2.[VERB] to form a liking for, esp after a short acquaintance
    I took to him straightaway
    3.[VERB] to have recourse to
    to take to the bottle
4.[VERB] take to heart to regard seriously

but i cannot understand "take to Twitter himself" with these definitions.

Not a teacher, nor a native
I think it may mean sth like "go to", e.g. ,people took to the streets in protest. [=went out into the streets to protest].He took to the airwaves [=he spoke on the radio] with his message.

It means that he wrote on Twitter himself. Please take the trouble to write English and not text-speak.

    [QUOTE]
    Quote from Merriam-Webster's Learner's Dictionary:
    " take to [phrasal verb]

1 take to (something) : to go to or into (a place)
    ▪ They grabbed their weapons and took to the hills. ▪ Thousands of people took to the streets in protest. [=went out into the streets to protest] ▪ He took to the airwaves [=he spoke on the radio] with his message. "

Maybe it will be easier for us learners to understand.
