    make it simple

Please clarify the following in red.

Tim Cook, Apple's new CEO, said that one of the lessons Jobs taught him was that "simple can be harder than complex. You have to work hard to get your thinking clear enough to make it simple. But it's worth it in the end, because once you get there, you can move mountains."

Is this saying "you have to work hard to think clearly so that you can make your thinking simple"? What does "it" refer to in "make it simple"?

    Thank you.

    Re: make it simple

'It' refers to a complex problem. If you work hard at thinking about it, you can ultimately simplify it.
