What does "grounded" mean in the following context?

The family moved to a new house in Palo Alto. They wanted to raise grounded children, and Mona Simpson remembered that they lived simply.

Thank you.

I believe that it means something like: They wanted to raise children who were

connected to reality. I believe that the key word in that sentence is "simply."

In other words (I am assuming that the family is the Jobs family or some other

important people), the parents did not want their children to think that they were

better than other people. Neither did the parents want to live as do so many rich

people (fancy cars, many houses, expensive clothes, servants, etc.).

I believe that many young people who achieve fame and make a lot of money often

get into trouble because they start to think that they are special and can do anything

that they want. In other words, they do not lead a grounded existence.

So much so that you are very likely to hear the phrase grounded into reality, which is used to talk about someone who does not ever lose sight of reality.
Hope it helps

"Grounded in reality" is possible. I've never met with "grounded into reality".

However, you can ground someone into reality...

I"m sorry, I'm not following you at all, and more importantly, I'm afraid you might be confusing people learning. Can you please explain what you meant, in a way that is clear and not cute? I suspect you're trying ot make a joke, but I"m not getting it. I don't mind not having a sense of humor, but I do mind when people come here for advice and under the guise of humor, they get confused.

(1) Warren Buffet is the world's third richest man.

(2) Yet he drives his own car. (No chauffeur)

(3) And his car is a 2006 model.

(4) He also still lives in a house that he bought in 1958 for $31,500.

I guess that we can say that Mr. Buffet (even though he is super rich and

super influential) is pretty well-grounded.

P. S. He does have his own airplane, but no one is perfect!
