She "landed" her first successful triple jump

She landed her first successful triple jump, a jump some older skaters aren't able to perform.
What does "landed" mean in the above sentence?

    She completed the jump successfully.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

I think the metaphor of landing = completing successfully comes from fishing; you 'land a fish'. But the writer presumably chose it because returning to land gracefully is particular important for an ice skater.
